For sale is a brilliant uncirculated (BU) 2023 Mexico 1oz Silver Libertad coin including a silver ring, hologram, and a ruthenium finish. A unique highlight of this coin is the hologram of Winged Victoria, Angel of Independence. Low mintage of only 500 pieces. Coin is permanently housed in a 2″ by 2″ plastic holder. Some interesting and historical aspects of this beautiful Libertad coin are presented below. Libertad is a Spanish word that means freedom. Libertad coins are minted at La Casa de Moneda de Mexico (Mexican Mint) the oldest mint in the Americas established in 1535. The current Libertad series was launched in 1982 bearing the artwork of Emilio del Moral of the Mexican Mint. The obverse features the Coat of Arms of Mexico in the center which consists of a Mexican Golden Eagle devouring a rattlesnake surrounded by 10 past versions of this symbol. One of these past symbols dates from 1524. The reverse design is based on the iconic 1921 Centenario, a gold coin issued to mark 100 years of Mexico independence. The winged Victoria of Angel of Independence is in front with the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the background. A very similar statue of the Winged Victoria, Angel of Independence, built in 1910, is 22 feet high and rests atop a 118-foot victory column that looks out over Mexico City, the capitol of Mexico. Mintages of the 1oz Silver Libertad since 1982 range from 67,000 in 1998 to 2,458,000 in 1992. Mintage in 2022 was 350,000 coins, the latest year for which I could find data. Mintage of the coin for sale is only 500!
